Barnardiston Hall, set in 16 acres of grounds on the borders of Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire, offers an individual all-round education for boys and girls, both day and boarding. High standards are achieved by small classes taught by graduate and teacher-trained staff, a caring approach and close liaison with parents.
The School has good facilities, including a computer room, gymnasium, tennis court, music rooms, science laboratory, library and extensive sports fields. For the boarders, the dormitories have individual study areas for the older children and all the bedrooms are bright, uncluttered and home-like. A well-resourced Block, housing six classrooms and an Art/CDT floor, has just opened.
The curriculum is designed to allow pupils to reach Common Entrance standards in the appropriate subjects. The best of traditional methods are mixed with modern ideas to provide an enjoyable and productive learning environment. French and computers are taught from the age of 3.
Sports in the Autumn and Spring Terms are hockey, swimming and cross-country/orienteering for all pupils, rugby/football for the boys and netball for the girls. During the summer, all do athletics, swimming, tennis/short tennis and cricket/rounders. Sport is played every day.
There is a wide range of clubs and societies including pet corner, recorders, chess, modelling, basketry, weaving, carpentry, school newspaper and science. Ballet, speech and drama, piano, woodwind, brass, strings and singing lessons are also offered. There are 3 School choirs and an orchestra.
Throughout the term, there are weekend activities for boarders (optional for day pupils) which include mountain walking, camping and visits.
